Book Early!

Places are normally limited to only six per workshop so it is advisable to book early. This ensures that you receive individual attention on your project. To reserve your place contact me.

A £10 deposit is required per booking, with the balance payable on the day of the first workshop.

 

ONE-DAY Workshops (Spring 2009)

My ONE-DAY workshops offer you the opportunity to learn new skills and techniques, or to make something on your sewing machine in a short period of time rather than attending my regular weekly sewing workshops.

Why not treat yourself to a useful and sociable day out, or treat your friends or relatives to a 'one-day workshop' gift vouchers? These are available for any of the workshops listed below and make an ideal present for a crafty mother, grandmother , or daughter.

If you fancy spending a day learning a new technique, here's the list of my planned workshops for Spring 2009:

 

Stitching to Dye

Saturday 7th February

£40 (including materials)

Learn to create an individual potholder from a range of neutral-coloured fabrics, using basic patchwork and embroidery techniques. Your finished product will then be dyed for you (process takes 24 hours) in a colour chosen from a selection available. As your potholder has been made in a variety of fabric types, each of which absorbs dye at different rates, the finished piece will contain a range of shades from your chosen colour. This course will cover:

  • Importance of fabric types for dyeing purposes
  • Incorporating lace and other embellishments
  • Free-form rotary-cutting
  • Free-machine embroidery techniques

This course is suitable for beginners and more experienced stitchers.

Getting Started in Free Machine Embroidery

Saturday 21st February

£45 (including kit and instructions)

This course will give you an introduction into the world of machine embroidery by creating a stitched organza hanging, inspired by autumn leaves, which may be used in a window setting or on a wall. This course will cover:

  • Using fusible web in wall hanging

  • Basic machine embroidery

  • Transferring images to fusible web

  • Using natural objects as a source of inspiration

Getting Started in Curtains and Roman Blinds

Saturday 7th March

£45 (including materials for a practice piece)

Learn the secrets of successful curtain and blind making. This course will cover:

  • How to measure your windows and work out how much fabric will be required

  • How to cut your curtain material accurately

  • Hand-sewing your curtains for a professional finish

Getting Started in Patchwork

Saturday 21st March

£45 (including kit and instructions)

This course will introduce you to the world of patchwork by creating your first patchwork cushion cover. The course will cover:

  • Accurate cutting of fabric using a rotary cutter

  • How to join the pieces together using your sewing machine

  • Quilting your piece to secure all layers together

  • Binding your work to a professional finish

Going Further in Patchwork

Saturday 25th April

£45 (including kit and instructions)

This course will show you how to use more complex shapes, designs and techniques in your patchwork. This course is ideal for those who have completed the Getting Started in Patchwork course.  This course will cover:

  • How to prepare alternative fabrics for use in patchwork

  • How to cut various shapes for use in complex designs

What Can You Expect?

Classes are normally suitable for stitchers of all levels who are able to use a sewing machine, unless otherwise stated. One-day workshops normally take place on a Saturday and run from 10am till 4pm.

Workshops normally comprise:

  • 6 hours of demonstration, practical instruction, and tuition in a pleasant garden setting at my studio in Hampshire
  • guaranteed personal tuition and advice from me - this is possible because my classes are small
  • a small friendly class (of up to a maximum of 6 people)
  • all-day, help-yourself refreshments (tea and coffee)
  • a light buffet lunch prepared by the local bakery
